Construction Team Builds Apartment In One Day
A team of labourers has been given the challenge of building a one-bedroom apartment in just one day as part of the South East Construction Expo.
The Xella Silka Element Challenge, which is a world-first, took place last week (Thursday September 26th) at the South of England Event Centre in Ardingly.
The task was established to demonstrate how advanced construction technology has become in recent years, enabling workers to build a whole flat between 08:30 and 16:00, Mid Sussex Times reported.
More than 2,000 leaders in the region’s construction sector attended the one-day trade show this week, including some of West Sussex’s road haulage businesses, after it enjoyed a successful year in 2018.
The event showcased a number of new projects, services and technology relevant to the building industry, and enabled developers, buyers, and construction experts to network with one another.
There was also a programme of speakers, which included the likes of Florence Hubert, the deputy agent for central southern England at the Bank of England, who provided an outlook of the country’s economy.
Following the expo will be the South East Construction Awards 2019, being held from 17:30 till 22:00.
These have been designed to celebrate the best in the sector, and enable winners to find new supply channels, make new contacts and break into different markets.
There are various categories this year, including Women in Construction, Best Construction Project, Best Architectural Design, and Best Construction Contractor.
The finalists were assessed by expert judges, including Darren Jarvis from Construct UK, Janet Kirklew, founder and editor in chief at Women in Trade Magazine, John Cowell, co-founder and co-director of Design Brighton, and Rosemary French, the executive director of Gatwick Diamond Initiative.
